How Becoming a Cruise Ship Musician Can Change Your Life!

I worked onboard cruise ships for nine years as a trumpet player in the houseband for Princess Cruise Line and these have been some of the most incredible times of my life. Not only have I seen every continent of the globe, crossed the equator and international date line, sailed around Cape Horn, and visited a significant portion of the world through my work onboard but I have been paid to do it!

The gig itself has been invaluable for my musicianship, providing a platform to hone my jazz improvisation and perform in a smorgasbord of musical styles from pop to opera and from jazz to country. You certainly don't get stuck in a monotonous routine playing the exact same music every night, that's for sure!

The reality of life onboard for a musician is that you have a lot of free time. This freedom offers so many opportunities to someone looking to improve their situation. You can use the gym facilities (for free!), write music, make plans to start your own business, take up optional paid secondary jobs, or - like me - all of the above! There's plenty of time for pretty much anything you want to do. I've even known musicians that have finished their university degrees while onboard!

Now I have decided to take a step back from this exhilarating lifestyle to start Best Entertainment in order to offer these same opportunities to the next generation of musicians looking to enter the industry.
