All showband/houseband musicians should be highly skilled sightreaders with a solid grasp on pop and jazz improvisation.
You will be expected to play in a huge variety of musical styles including jazz, pop, rock, musical theatre, opera, country, reggae, motown, and many more!
You should have experience playing both with and without click tracks. You should also be familiar with an enormous amount of styles and grooves and be able to execute them faithfully.
You should have an impeccable sense of groove and the ability to 'lock in' with the drummer. Ability to play upright bass is a bonus!
You should be comfortable playing in ensembles, as a soloist, and accompanying vocalists.
You should be comfortable playing in ensembles and as a soloist. A knowledge of iconic guitar solos and riffs is also highly recommended.
You should have an impressive lead trumpet range and be extremely versatile. You will often be expected to lead a horn section and occasionally double on flugelhorn.
You should have an extensive range that covers both high and low registers and be able to blend seamlessly as part of a horn section.
You should be an accomplished improviser on alto and tenor saxophone and be comfortable playing both flute and clarinet.
All soloists, duos, and bands should have a large and diverse repertoire with an engaging stage presence that leaves your audiences captivated and asking for more!
You should be an engaging performer able to stage intimate solo sets, more upbeat singalongs, and occasional instrumental background music sets.
You are usually expected to function as background music in public areas but occasionally you may be required to undertake other functions such as weddings or religious services.
You will usually have a dedicated venue onboard, meaning you will need to be a highly engaging entertainer that can read an audience and take requests on the fly!
You will usually perform as a duo in public spaces but on occasion you may be asked to undertake other functions such as joint performances with other groups or background music for private functions.
You will be the musical stars of the ship! Your audiences will get to know your band members on a first name basis as they enjoy your high energy party music during the voyage.
You should be proficient at bongos, congas, and other small percussion instruments. You will perform alongside other musical groups to boost the audience experience to another level!
